The Reasonably Batshit Thinking Behind Wearing A Daily Uniform

(Left to right) Mark Zuckerberg, Ralph Lauren & Steve Jobs

Mark Zuckerberg. Ralph Lauren. Steve Jobs. All great minds within their own right, all richer than God, yet wear the exact same uniform almost everyday. Why? If you’re like me & love the endless possibilities of options afforded to you via different brands & fashion-houses, this might make you scratch your head quite a bit.

The reasoning behind such a simple yet bold choice varies from person to person. Most who adopt this trend cite continuity & lack of anxiety via a daily choice as the main reasoning behind what for them has become something of a lifestyle. If you’re lucky enough to have a job that doesn’t require you to wear a uniform, you know the night before or the day of can render your bedroom, closet, or bathroom a war-zone with clothing options strewn about. You know that time management can be a bitch & such choice comes with the tiresome task of actually changing in & out of endless options, as well as having to clean your mess afterwards…Unless, you have the chair. Yes, THAT chair, the infamous chair every clothes whore has that becomes a volcanic concoction of everything we’ve either previously worn or decided against. It’s slightly annoying to worry about someone seeing you in a repeat outfit or being photographed & posted online in said outfit, which is obviously the least of your worries when you’ve taken to a uniform. There’s also a sense of dependability subconsciously embedded into the minds of everyone who interacts with someone who wears a uniform. They know you for wearing THAT combination of clothing, never wavering or straying from what you know & like. There becomes something about that person they can trust & count on in a world of ever changing factors & uncertainty.

Another argument made for dawning a uniform is money saved. Many who enjoy the familiarity & security of repeat clothing often enjoy not falling prey to the latest & greatest trends. They feel no need to keep up with what’s in season, strutting down the runway each season. They’ve found durable, quality components from brands they trust & deem “timeless”, so much so that they wear that & only that & rarely find the need or want to stray from said attire.

I used to despise the mere concept of a uniform, being that i’m consistently on fashion blogs & websites seeing what’s in season. As of late, my thinking has began to shift. My love of clothes has slowly become borderline hoarding, with my closet becoming something of a fashion capsule. I keep lots of things due to the memories attached to them & the hope that i’ll have an event to wear those $800 lambskin leather pants with zippers to.

I’m not by any means saying that i’m gonna clean out my closet anytime soon, or become a minimalist overnight, but I am becoming increasingly envious of that method of living. In it’s own way it requires the wearer to be ballsy, secure with oneself, have a greater focus on something than themselves & fiscally responsible.

Off the top of my head, if I absolutely had to wear a uniform for the rest of my life, it’d be black Levis 510s, Black Goodfellow & Co Crewneck T-Shirt by Target, Black PROD.00003 crewneck sweatshirt from SEAM & cloud White/Core White/Green Adidas Stan Smiths.
